Glyndwr University Wrexham, 7th September '09.

Centre for Applied Internet Research

Nigel Houlden invited us along for a meet and greet evening
which marked the opening of an international seminar about the Internet
.

Our brief was to present a taste of the history and culture of Wales to an audience of international delegates from around the world. Despite the occassional language barrier issue, we had a great evening, making new friends from as far a field as Canada, Belarus, Bangladesh, New Zealand and Australia. All were very keen to handle armour, try things on and talk about Glyndwr and his connection to the University.
Professor Michael Scott Vice-Chancellor stopped for a chat and was very pleased with our presence. All in all we had a great evening and hopefully helped to raise Owain Glyndwr's profile around the globe. Many thanks to Nigel and team CAIR. It was Glyndwr Day and it started for me at my daughter's playgroup. Anti Deb gathered everyone in a circle and we began. The children had a chance to see how heavy my gauntlets were.
My daughter modelled my bascinet helmet. And everyone was enthralled by my pouch of items. Finally the children had a chance to look at Glyndwr's sword.

After a chorus of 'Diolch yn fawrs' I headed off to my next visit of the day.

We took all our gear into the hall and the children filed in. I have never seen so many princess's, knights, dragons and rugby shirts!
It was a splendid sight. Our time was a bit limited so we packed in as much info as we could.

We demonstrated drop spindle, talked about felt making, cleaning teeth, wearing armour, having hose instead of trousers, believing in magic etc. Hopefully we covered everything! The children were a great audience and sat and listened to us perfectly. They were a pleasure to work with. I'm looking forward to a return visit.

I would like to thank headmistress Miss Llinos Jones for allowing us to be there and the warm welcome we recieved.
